VICTORVILLE – Twelve were displaced after a fire destroyed two apartment units in the 16000 block of Lariat Drive in the City of Victorville on Friday night.
San Bernardino County Fire Department firefighters responded to the commercial fire reported at around 9:00 p.m. Firefighters arrived within approximately four minutes of the report to find the apartment building with heavy smoke and fire showing from the second story. Firefighters immediately searched for any trapped occupants as they attempted to limit the spread of the fire. A second alarm was called due to the size of the building, fire involvement, and proximity to additional buildings. Several assisted with the fire including other San Bernardino County Fire Department stations in the High Desert, as well as the Apple Valley Fire District. “First units established an offensive fire attack with truck crews supporting their operation from the roof above,” said San Bernardino County Fire Department Public Information Officer Jeremy Kern. “A primary and secondary search was quickly found to be all clear in the fire building.”
Firefighters were able to quickly limit the spread of the fire and had the fire in control within around 30 minutes. Forty-six fire personnel responded to the scene including three truck companies, ten engines, one medic squad, two chief officers, one heavy rescue, and one investigator. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The Red Cross responded to assist those displaced, which consisted of twelve occupants from two families. The damage estimates are still unknown and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
