DESERT CENTER – A 10-year-old Victorville boy was killed and five others were injured in a traffic collision on Wednesday. The collision occurred at around 12:35 a.m. on Wednesday morning, in Desert Center on the I-10 east, west of Summit Road. Collie Washington, 67, of Tarzana was driving a 2016 7-passenger Dodge Caravan when it traveled into the center divider causing the van to overturn
Four of the eight passengers were unrestrained in the vehicle and were ejected, according to the CHP news release. These passengers included the 10-year-old boy, later identified as Delawrence Grant III, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The 44-year-old woman, a 16-year-old male, and 9-year-old male all sustained major injuries and were transported to area hospitals.
Of the four who were wearing seatbelts, two passengers suffered minor injuries and two others were not injured. The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in this collision. The four ejected were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The left lane of the I-10 eastbound was closed until around 4:30 a.m.
