BAKER – A woman and her dog died after a traffic collision early Thursday morning CHP officials said. At around 6:18 a.m. the Barstow area CHP responded to the I-15 just north of Baker when a vehicle was reported to be in the open desert.
Upon arrival, it was determined that the 2013 Honda Accord driven by a 64-year-old woman was in a collision. The woman was driving northbound with her small dog when her vehicle traveled onto the right shoulder. The vehicle continued on into the open desert on the east side of the I-15.
The vehicle then traveled into a dirt wash and hit a dirt embankment causing the Honda to go airborne. The Honda landed on its wheels but the vehicle sustained major front end damage. The woman and her dog were determined to be dead at the scene.
CHP officials said that drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the collision. The collision remains under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed this collision or who has any information is asked to contact the California Highway Patrol, Barstow station at (760)255-8700
