VICTORVILLE – A 2-year-old Victorville girl is recovering, home and most importantly smiling after being ejected during a traffic collision Friday afternoon. Her mother, Marita Camarena says that the small child is acting normal and that she would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of thoughts, prayers, and well-wishes.
At around 3:40 p.m. two vehicles collided on Amargosa near Kings Ranch Road. As the Mazda MPV that the child was riding with her mother, aunt and two of her other siblings was exiting the shopping center parking lot it was sideswiped by a black Nissan Altima. The Nissan, according to witnesses was heading southbound on Amargosa Road.
Despite major damage to the van, most of the occupants suffered no injuries. The only reported injury was to the 2-year-old girl, who was awake and breathing and located ejected several feet from the vehicle.
Camarena also said she was injured but the injury went nearly unnoticed by medical personnel at the scene. “Nobody checked on me or my arm. I said multiple times I can’t feel my arm. Only the ambulance guy looked at my arm but after everything was over with,” said Camarena. “They dropped me off back at the scene and then he asked if I was injured.”
The toddler was airlifted to Loma Linda University with non-life-threatening injuries as a precaution. According to the family of the child, all children were properly restrained in car seats at the time of the collision. The small child was released from the hospital Friday night with only scratches.”My daughter was in her seat. She was just so tiny once my car went to a stop she then flopped out,” said Camarena. “She knows how to unbuckle herself like my other two kids.”
No other injuries were reported as a result of the accident. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
