VICTORVILLE, Calif. – A 13-year-old boy who attends Cobalt Institute of Math and Science was arrested after a handgun was found in his backpack.

On Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at around 8:43 a.m. deputies from the Victorville Station responded to the school, located at 14045 Topaz Road in the City of Victorville for the report of a student with a gun. The reporting party, which was school staff, said that they received an anonymous tip that an eighth-grade boy brought an air pistol to school. School security made contact with the student and found that he had an actual handgun in his backpack. The gun was not loaded and the student did not have ammunition in his possession.

The student was interviewed and a search warrant search was conducted at the home of the student. No other weapons or evidence of credible threats were located. The boy was booked in the High Desert Juvenile Detention Center for possession of a firearm at a public school.
