HIGHLAND – An accused child molester from Highland is behind bars, but the whereabouts of his wife and stepchildren remains unknown. From the dates of December 26, 2016, through January 8, 2017, 50-year-old Juan Contreras Nunez had a 13-year-old girl staying at his home in the 7600 block of Elm Street in Highland. When the girl got home, on January 9, 2017, she told her mother that Contreras Nunez had sexually abused her throughout her stay at his home.
The Palm Springs Police were the initial contact, but the case was forwarded to the Highland Police. The victim spoke with detectives during which time she disclosed additional criminal acts. On January 12, 2017, deputies served a search warrant and Contreras Nunez was detained and evidence was seized. Contreras Nunez was booked into the West Valley Detention Center for lewd or lascivious acts with a child, sodomy with victim under 18, oral copulation with victim under 18, and continual sexual abuse of a child,
During the search evidence of a wife, by the name of Crystal and several stepchildren was located at the home, but their belongings were all left at the home. Authorities said that the Crystal and the stepchildren appeared to have left, leaving all of their belongings at the home several months ago. No forwarding information was left and their whereabouts remain unknown. Contreras Nunez believes they may have been heading to Oklahoma.
