BARSTOW, Ca. – An Adelanto man and Apple Valley man were arrested after a high-speed pursuit in a stolen vehicle.
Barstow Police officials said that on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at around 4:03, officers were dispatched to Serrano Avenue reference a stolen vehicle. When they arrived they witnessed the vehicle traveling westbound in the 1600 block of East Main Street. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle but the driver continued driving away at a high-rate of speed. Officers followed behind as the driver fled westbound on Main Street to Yucca Avenue.
The driver failed to stop at red lights and stop signs, as he fled at a high rate of speed. He turned eastbound on Virginia Way and struck another vehicle from behind, pushing that vehicle into the front yard of an apartment complex in the 800 block of Virginia Way. He continued driving and turned southbound on Muriel Drive where a backseat passenger tossed a gun from the window. The vehicle then turned westbound onto Armory Road where it became disabled.
“Three passengers immediately fled from the vehicle while the driver remained and attempted to keep the vehicle going,” Police officials said. “Officers pursued the three suspects on foot and were eventually able to apprehend all three of them. Officers contacted the driver and were able to remove him from the vehicle and take him into custody without incident.” Jasper Rogers, 28, of Adelanto was the driver of the stolen vehicle and was learned to be on parole. Juan Rivas, 18, if Apple Valley was a passenger, along with two juvenile males, 14 and 17-years-old. The 17-year-old was also learned to be on felony probation for a prior robbery.
The gun tossed from the window was located and was loaded. Rogers was booked into the Adelanto Detention Center for vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a firearm, evading a peace officer, and possession of a loaded handgun.
Rivas was booked at the Adelanto Detention center for possession of a handgun while not being the registered owner.
The seventeen-year-old male juvenile was booked at High Desert Juvenile Detention Center for felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a loaded handgun while not being the registered owner.
The fourteen-year-old male juvenile was booked at the Barstow Police Department for Resist, Delay, or Obstruct a Peace Officer. He was released to his parents.
