VICTORVILLE – The man shot at apartments at the Wimbledon Apartments and stumbled to a bingo hall a half mile away collapsing at the door has died. The suspect, Jose Cornejo, 24, of Adelanto was since arrested and is now facing murder charges as a result of the shooting murder.
On Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at 1:38 p.m. deputies from the Victorville Station responded to a call reporting multiple shots fired at the apartment complex in the 16900 block of Jasmine Street. While deputies and emergency medical personnel responded to the location they received updated information that the injured man, identified as Rodney Mosby, 30, of Apple Valley showed up at the Bingo Hall in the 12200 block of Hesperia Road.
The caller indicated that he appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. Medical personnel arrived and rushed Mosby to Desert Valley Hospital in preparation to be airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center, but despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at 4:21 p.m.
Witnesses indicated that a Hispanic man driving a silver SUV fled from the scene following the shooting. The vehicle, a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo was located on La Mesa and Del Gado and a felony stop was conducted. Cornejo was detained without incident.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide Detail was summoned and responded to assume the investigation. Jose Cornejo was interviewed by Homicide detectives and subsequently arrested. He was transported and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Murder where he is being held without bail.
