ANAHEIM, Calif. – An Anaheim man was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for the stabbing murder of his wife and infant son.
On Friday, April 26, 2019, Kwame Adom Carpenter, 27, appeared in court for sentencing following the jury finding him guilty in February of two counts of murder. In addition, he was special circumstances for committing multiple murders and a sentencing enhancement allegation for the personal use of a deadly weapon.
Carpenter and his wife, Moureen Gathua-Carpenter were married and living with their son, 6-month-old Kyan Gathua-Carpenter in an apartment. On June 22, 2015, Carpenter got into a verbal altercation with his wife at around noon, District Attorney’s officials said. Moureen picked up the couple’s son, and Kwame stabbed the two of them with a butcher knife. He then left the scene in a family member’s vehicle. When Anaheim Police responded to the scene they found the mother and son suffering from stab wounds. Moureen was pronounced dead at the scene, while Kyan was transported to the hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
On June 23, 2015, at 3:00 a.m., Santa Ana Police officers located Kwame Adom Carpenter sleeping in the backseat of the vehicle in the parking lot at Fountain Valley Hospital. He attempted to flee in the vehicle, causing police to shoot once at the vehicle. Carpenter was not injured as a result of the shooting and continued on leading officers on a pursuit. He crashed his vehicle in Mile Square Park in Santa Ana and jumped into a nearby lake. Carpenter was arrested and taken to the hospital for the treatment of injuries sustained from a Fountain Valley Police K-9 bite.
