APPLE VALLEY, Ca. – A 26-year-old Apple Valley man was arrested after falling asleep while driving under the influence on Friday.
At around 3:22 a.m. a Hesperia Station deputy responded to Mariposa Road and Main Street for a welfare check of a man who was falling asleep in his vehicle. The reporting party said that the vehicle was impeding the flow of traffic in the area. When the deputy arrived the vehicle was slowly moving into the intersection as Juan Banuelos was sleeping with the vehicle in gear. The deputy was able to remove Banuelos and stop the vehicle from moving any further. After a field sobriety test it was determined that Banuelos was under the influence.
The deputy searched the vehicle and found an unregistered gun missing a serial number. In addition, an extended magazine was located. He was arrested and booked into jail for possession of a large capacity magazine, driving while under the influence, and driving while under the influence with a blood alcohol level above 0.08%. He is scheduled to be arraigned on February 9, 2021.
