CAJON PASS, Ca. – A 26-year-old Apple Valley man lost his life in an early morning collision in the Cajon Pass approaching the Oak Hills area.
California Highway Patrol officials said that at around 4:12 p.m. a 36-year-old San Bernardino man, Darion Tatum’s 2005 Black Ford Mustang ran out of gas while traveling northbound on the 15 freeway south of Oak Hill Road. His vehicle stopped in the #1 (fast) lane of traffic. Alex Zwingmann was also traveling northbound on the 15 freeway in the #1 lane on a 1996 Honda 900RR. For unknown reasons, the Honda collided with the left side of the disabled vehicle. Zwigmann sustained major injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene at 4:39 a.m.
Tatum was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The collision remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact Officer F. Garcia at the San Bernardino CHP Office at (909) 383-4247.
The family of Zwingmann has started a memorial account in order to assist in any expenses resulting in his unexpected death.
