APPLE VALLEY – A toddler remains in the Intensive Care Unit at a trauma center after being accidentally shot by her father on Wednesday night.
At around 11:24 p.m. the father of the 2-year-old girl was downstairs in the apartment home at 16186 Viho Road in the Town of Apple Valley cleaning his gun. The gun fired and struck the child who was in an upstairs bedroom. The child was awake and breathing after being shot in her abdomen area.
Emergency fire personnel responded and rushed the girl to St. Mary’s Hospital where she was airlifted to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital. Authorities said that the parents were interviewed by both detectives and workers with Children and Family Services. No arrests have been made, the child required surgery and remains in critical condition.Two other toddlers living in the home remain in the home. The investigation is ongoing, the report is being submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
