HEMET, Calif. – The neighbor of an elderly Hemet woman stopped an attempted break-in at her home on Sunday.
At around 3:00 p.m. the elderly woman was at her home in the 400 block of Harvard Street when a male subject attempted to gain entry into her home. A neighbor noticed the man attempting to break into her home and he grabbed his handgun and confronted him. The suspect fled the scene on foot while the neighbor followed.
Police made contact with the elderly homeowner who was shaken, but otherwise unharmed. Police said evidence at the scene determined that the suspect did, in fact, attempt to gain entry into the home, but fled prior to making entry. The handgun the neighbor had was registered and lawfully owned, police officials said. Although the investigation is ongoing, the attempted burglary suspect was identified as James Ventura, 20, of Hemet. Police determined that Ventura had an active arrest warrant for a drug possession charge. He was booked into jail for attempted burglary.
