Authorities Seeking Additional Information About Yucaipa Shooting

YUCAIPA – A man remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition after a shooting in the 12300 block of 4th Street in Yucaipa.

On Saturday, July 7, 2018, at around 2:39 p.m. dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting that a male had been shot. When deputies arrived they located a 26-year-old man lying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his stomach, arms, and back. Emergency medical personnel arrived to provide treatment at the scene and en route to Loma Linda University Medical Center. The victim was taken into emergency surgery. Through investigational leads, the deputies were able to determine the suspect’s direction of travel. They also learned that citizens were chasing the suspect, later identified as Enrique Frausto, 22, of Rialto.

The sheriff’s helicopter located Frausto and directed ground deputies to the 12600 block of 3rd Street, where he was taken into custody without incident. While fleeing, Frausto, according to authorities discarded the gun used during the shooting. Deputies along with an evidence detection dog searched for the discarded weapon to no avail. Frausto was positively identified as the suspect involved in the shooting. He was booked into the Central Detention Center for Attempted Murder and is being held without bail.

The investigation is ongoing. Authorities are attempting to determine the motive of the shooting and possibly other persons of interest who were involved. They believe that there may be additional witnesses who have not yet provided information.
