SAN BERNARDINO – A baby boy could not wait to meet his parents early Monday morning. Just before 7:00 a.m. CHP Sergeant Dave Dueñas was flagged down in a Wells Fargo Parking lot near East Briar Drive and S. Tippecanoe Avenue. The man explained to the Sergeant that his girlfriend was in the back of their minivan and she was about to give birth to their child.
Sgt. Dueñas notified dispatch, then rushed over to the van, but realized that the baby had just been born. Already trained about what to do in this type of situation, Sgt. Duenas tied off the umbilical cord and prepared the mother and her newborn son to be transported to the hospital. Soon after, an ambulance arrived and the two were transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center. According to CHP officials, both mother and baby are doing well.
