BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A woman at home with her children shot the suspect during the burglary of her Bakersfield home on Tuesday morning.
At around 8:14 a.m., Kern County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a burglary in progress in the 3100 block of Montello Street. When they arrived they learned that the suspect who was armed with a hammer broke into the woman’s home. In fear for her and her children’s safety, she armed herself with a gun and shot at the suspect one time striking him.
The suspect, later identified as Andrew Oldham, 33, was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries and will face robbery, child endangerment, assault with a deadly weapon, and burglary charges when he is released. Authorities said that the woman defending herself, her children, and her home will face no charges.
