BARSTOW – A Barstow man was arrested for robbery and attempted murder following a Monday afternoon stabbing.
On Monday at around 1:12 p.m. authorities said that they received the report of a stabbing in the 1200 block of East Main Street. Barstow Police arrived to the scene to find 34-year-old Barstow resident, Oscar Ibanez suffering from stab wounds to the front of his body. Barstow Fire Paramedics responded and administered medical aid to Ibanez. Ibanez was subsequently transported to Barstow Community Hospital where he was treated and later released.
Through investigation, officers determined that Ibanez and his girlfriend were behind a dumpster enclosure near Cutting Edge Beauty Salon, when the suspect, Mario Sanchez, 40, approached the couple while accusing Ibanez of stealing a speaker from him. “Ibanez and his girlfriend told the officers that Mario stabbed Ibanez on his chest with a razor type pocket knife and took his backpack containing his personal property and $40.00 cash,” Barstow Police officials said. “The witnesses provided a description of Mario and reported that he fled the scene on foot toward the Desert Inn Motel.”
Officers followed the lead and located Sanchez in one of the rooms at the motel. Sanchez was positively identified as the suspect in the stabbing by both Ibanez and his girlfriend during separate infield lineups. Evidence technicians responded to the scene to process evidence at the scene. Sanchez was booked into jail for Murder and Robbery.
