BARSTOW – A 49-year-old Barstow man who was an inmate at the High Desert Detention Center was found unresponsive on his bunk on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at around 6:00 a.m.
When deputies arrived they found Scott Purdy on his bunk not breathing. Deputies attempted lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived. Purdy was pronounced dead at the scene. Purdy was arrested on Sunday, August 19, 2018, for attempted auto theft and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent in the City of Barstow.
Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators responded and conducted an investigation. The investigators found no evidence of injury to Purdy’s body and it was determined he suffered from multiple medical conditions. The cause of Purdy’s death is pending an autopsy.
