BARSTOW – Less than a year following an arrest for the murder of a different Barstow man, 44-year-old Scott Brodie is back behind bars for murder authorities said.
Brodie was arrested on June 22, 2016, for the murder of 33-year-old Robert Whitnack who was found shot at Brodie’s home located in the 36200 block of Ramirez Road near Old Highway 58. For reasons that remain unclear, Brodie was released just two days later on June 24, 2016.
On May 13, 2017, deputies from the Barstow Station again responded to his home regarding information they received about a possible shooting and homicide that reportedly took place on May 10, 2017. On Tuesday, May 16, 2017, Homicide investigator responded to the scene to assume the investigation. Numerous interviews were conducted and the following day a search warrant was served on Brodie’s home.
Brodie was detained for questioning while a K9 Deputy and his K9 partner, “Ellie” who is trained to detect human remains responded to the scene. Ellie eagerly got to work and alerted to a specific location. The area Ellie alerted to was excavated and a male body was found. Brodie was arrested and booked the High Desert Detention Center for murder. He is being held without bail.
On Thursday, May 19, 2017, fingerprints of the deceased man identified him as 33-year-old Archie Stewart of Barstow.
