BARSTOW – A Barstow mother was arrested after physically assaulting a teacher at Cameron Elementary School on Thursday morning.
Prior to the incident, the mother identified as Alecia Garcia, 29, went to the Barstow Police Department at around 6:20 a.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2018, to report that her non-verbal son’s teacher at the school scratched him at the end of February. She showed authorities proof of the injury to the child, alleging that the teacher caused the injury to the child. An investigation was opened as a result of the report.
Less than two hours following the report, just before 8:15 a.m. Garcia went to Cameron Elementary School located in the 800 block of Muriel Drive. Witnesses said that Garcia brought her son to school. She then approached the teacher near the bus drop off area as the teacher waited to escort her students off of the bus and into the classroom. Garcia then allegedly asked the teacher why she was teaching at the school just before grabbing her by her hair and punching her multiple times in her face and head. Witnesses in the area pulled Garcia off of the teacher, holding her to the ground until officers arrived. The witnesses all positively identified the assailant as Alecia Garcia.
The teacher was treated at the scene and subsequently transported to Barstow Community Hospital for the treatment of moderate injuries to her nose, head, and lower body. Garcia was arrested and was booked into jail for Battery Against a School Employee. The investigation into the injury to Garcia’s son is ongoing.
