LENWOOD, Calif. – A 34-year-old mother of eight was killed in a suspected DUI traffic collision on Thursday.
At around 10:20 p.m. Tamara Lynn Fox, of Barstow, was the front-seat passenger in a 2004 Kia Optima heading eastbound on National Trails Highway near Sylvan Road. The driver, Dion Levell Barnett, 36, also from Barstow, lost control of the vehicle and overturned, ejecting Fox. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials said that Fox who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.
Barnett was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence. He was booked at the High Desert Detention Center for Gross Vehicular Manslaughter while Intoxicated and DUI Alcohol/Drug resulting in Bodily Injury. He is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail and is scheduled to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on the afternoon of Monday, June 24, 2019.
Barnett has an extensive criminal and traffic citation history from 2002 to 2019 including the most recent, Driving with a Suspended License in May 2019.
