BARSTOW – The Barstow police and fire officials were able to successfully talk a man down from the First Street bridge on Monday morning. The man was reported to be walking on top of the bridge at around 6:45 a.m. When officers arrived they saw the man walking on the metal beams on top of the bridge.
The bridge was immediately closed so that negotiations could begin without interruptions or distractions in the area. Approximately 2 hours later the man came down unharmed. The bridge was reopened to traffic and the man was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
At this time it is unclear what the intentions of the man were or if this was considered an attempted suicide.
