BARSTOW, Calif – Two sustained major injuries and two others were pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the traffic collision just north of Muriel Drive and Armory Road.
On Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at around 4:40 p.m. Barstow Police and emergency medical personnel responded to the reports of a multi-vehicle traffic collision. The reporting parties said that several people were injured as a result of the crash. Through investigation, it was determined that a white Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Warren Jackson, 55, of Barstow, was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Muriel Drive. The vehicle ran the red light at the Muriel Drive and Armory Road intersection.
The Trailblazer collided with a white Ford Freestar van that was stopped in the left turn lane, which had a red light. The Freestar sustained major damage and was pushed in a northeast direction and came to a rest on the east sidewalk of Muriel Drive. The driver of the Freestar, who was the only occupant in the vehicle was transported to Barstow Community Hospital for minor injuries. The Trailblazer continued in a northern direction and collided with the front of a gray Audi A4 that was traveling south on Muriel Drive. “The collision caused moderate damage to the Silverado and slightly pushed it in a north direction, causing it to come to rest in the southbound lane of Muriel Drive,” said Barstow Police Spokesman Detective Sergeant Jeremy Bledsoe in the news release. “The driver and sole occupant of the Silverado was later transported by family to Barstow Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.”
All of the four occupants of the Trailblazer were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the vehicle. The Trailblazer came to a rest on a dirt embankment on the west side of Muriel. Two were transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center by ambulance for major injuries. Joyce Booker, 59, of Barstow, was the front passenger in the Trailblazer and the driver, Warren Jackson were both pronounced deceased at the scene. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
