BARSTOW – A verbal altercation led to the serious injury of a male victim and the arrest of a 57-year-old Barstow woman.
On Monday, May 21, 2018, at around 6:02 a.m. Barstow Police responded to the report of a disturbance in the 1500 Block of Riverside Drive. The reporting party said that the victim was bleeding from his mouth and required immediate medical assistance. During the call, the dispatcher could hear a female arguing in the background.
When police arrived they made contact with the victim, who had a large laceration on his lip that was bleeding profusely. The victim told officers that he was inside the home with Brenda Gaston, his ex-girlfriend. As the victim was cooking, the two became involved in a verbal altercation that escalated. Gaston grabbed the glass pot that the victim was cooking with, broke it, and then hit him in the face with it causing a major injury. The victim was treated at the scene and transported to Barstow Community Hospital for further treatment.
Gaston was positively identified as the person who assaulted the victim and she was transported to the Barstow Police Department. The glass pot was collected as evidence. Gaston was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Domestic Battery.
