BIG BEAR – A man who was helping out some newly made friends was assaulted and robbed during his Big Bear camping trip on Tuesday evening. At around 7:05 p.m. deputies from the Big Bear station responded to Big Bear Yellow Post Campsite 28 for the report of an assault.
Christopher Huebner was camping in a forested area when he met three subjects. The subjects asked Huebner to give them a ride into the city area so that they could run some errands and Huebner agreed. One of the three subjects was dropped off, and as the three including Huebner were heading back to the campsite, one of the subjects used an unknown weapon to strangle Huebner as he was driving. The second subject punched Huebner repeatedly. “During the assault, the two suspects stole Huebner’s wallet and then fled the scene on foot,” Sheriff’s officials said. “Huebner sustained injuries to his face and neck as a result of the unprovoked attack.”
The subjects, later identified as Jerry Walker and Ariq Carrigan were located by deputies at Yellow Post Campsite 25, and were arrested for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. Both Walker and Carrigan were booked into the West Valley Detention Center and are being held in lieu of $100,000. The two will be arraigned on Thursday afternoon.
