DESERT CENTER – A 34-year-old San Jacinto man was arrested for crashing his big rig while allegedly driving under the influence on Thursday.
At around 1:25 a.m. the California Highway Patrol (CHP) was dispatched to the report of a single-vehicle traffic collision on the I-10, in Desert Center. Gorge Rodriguez, 34, was driving a 2016 Cat big rig, which was towing a single trailer westbound on the I-10, west of Box Canyon Road/Cottonwood Springs Road.
CHP officials said that Rodriguez allowed the vehicle to travel to the right, off of the roadway and strike a metal guardrail. The vehicle then struck a concrete bridge abutment, before overturning north of the roadway.
Rodriguez was not injured as a result of the collision, but was arrested on suspicion of DUI. He was booked into the Indio jail. Fuel spilled onto the ground causing the collision to be deemed a hazardous materials incident. The collision remains under investigation by the CHP.
