CAJON PASS – Recent fires have burned through many acres of Cajon Pass this year; the Blue Cut fire which became a devastation to many destroying homes, vehicles, businesses, and even killing family pets. The high winds, low humidity, and higher than usual temperatures have made for an environment where once a fire ignites, it spreads, sometimes out of control.
At 5:20 p.m. on Monday, October 10, 2016, a fire was reported on the 15 freeway southbound, south of Oak Hill. The fire was reported to be in the center divider and even prior to firefighter arrival the fire began to cause traffic backup. A Sigalert was issued, closing the #1 (fast) lane to allow fire officials to bring in the equipment necessary to fight the fire.
Southbound traffic is reported to be backed up to Ranchero Road as of 6:30 p.m. The fire was estimated to grow to approximately 6 acres in size when firefighters quickly stopped the forward rate of spread. The fire is reported to be out just before 6:30 p.m. CalFire and San Bernardino County Fire Department firefighters are on scene to provide mop-up.
