VICTORVILLE – A skimming device was located at an ATM [machine] at a Victorville bank on Sunday morning. On Sunday at around 11:13 a.m. Victorville station deputies responded to the bank located in the 12500 block of Hesperia Road for a reported skimming device on the machine.
The deputy made contact with the reporting party who said he was about to use the ATM machine when he noticed something out of the ordinary on the machine so he pulled on the cover of the card reader portion of the machine. When he pulled, the outer cover came off exposing that a skimming device was attached to the inside cover. Sheriff’s officials said that the bank manager and security officials were made aware of the device.
The Victorville Police Department would like to warn the public of the potential of skimming mechanisms being placed on ATM’s, gas pumps, etc., that could lead to your bank or credit card information being stolen and used without your knowledge. You are always cautioned to check the area where you insert your card. If you feel there is a problem with the machine, please report it to the owner of the machine or call the non-emergency Sheriff’s Dispatch number, (760) 956-5001, to report it.
Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact the Victorville Police Department at (760) 241-2911. Callers wishing to remain anonymous are urged to call the We-Tip Hotline at 1-800-78CRIME (27463), or you may leave information on the We-Tip website at www.wetip.com.
