Caretaker Arrested for Using a Stun Gun on Mentally Disabled Person

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. –  A caretaker at a residential care facility was arrested after being caught on video surveillance using a stun gun to intimidate and assault a mentally disabled adult in her care.

An investigation into the abuse allegations reported by New Discovery Residential Services located in the 6100 block of Blythe Avenue in the City of San Bernardino. The report came after the adult board and care home management reviewed the surveillance captured in November 2018, and saw Dewaina Cunningham, 52, of San Bernardino, abusing the client. Detectives interviewed Cunningham, who had been working at the location for around a year and was responsible for the care of dependent adults.

Cunningham was interviewed by Detectives who obtained corroborating evidence to support the accusations. Following the interview, Cunningham was arrested for Dependent Adult Abuse. “The crime was cross-reported to San Bernardino County Adult Protective Services. Cunningham has been employed as a caretaker at other board and care facilities in the County of San Bernardino,” San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials said. The photo of Cunningham is being provided in an attempt to identify and other victims.
