ADELANTO – A wise man once said, “We got to pray just to make it today,” well, maybe it was MC Hammer but many do express the sentiment, especially with the political division in our country and even in our communities. “There has been much strife and discord in our country and state since we last celebrated this occasion, and there’s even more of a need for us come together and pray for our leaders,” said Mayor Richard Kerr, who will present a proclamation on behalf of the city.
The City of Adelanto will conduct a ceremony in recognition of the National Day of Prayer, on Thursday, May 3, 2018. The event will take place at the City Hall located on the northwest corner of CA-395 and Air Expressway in the City of Adelanto. Those attending should meet at the flagpole shortly before noon. The event is coordinated by Pastor Dane Davis, of the First Christian Church, located at 17746 George Boulevard in the City of Victorville. “Prayer is much more than a tradition, the lifeblood of any nation that claims—In God We Trust,” said Pastor Davis. “Our national and local leaders, military personnel, schools, churches and families all need our prayer so please join us on Thursday, May 3 as we lift them up to our Father in heaven,” he added.
This year will be the 66th year where people of all faiths, join together and pray for the nation and its leaders. President Harry Truman signed the bill proclaiming the National Day of Prayer into law in the United States on April 17, 1952. President Reagan amended the law in 1988, to designate the first Thursday of May as National Day of Prayer. Those attending the approximately 1-hour long ceremony will be able to enjoy sandwiches, chips, and cookies at the end of the ceremony.
