INDIO, Calif. – A Coachella man lost his life after being struck by a vehicle in Indio on Saturday authorities said.
At around 12:59 a.m., the pedestrian was in the lanes of traffic westbound 10 freeway, west of Jefferson Street. The unidentified vehicle was driving westbound on the I-10, west of Jefferson Street when the vehicle struck the pedestrian. The driver fled from the area, leaving the pedestrian behind.
The pedestrian, identified as 39-year-old Jesus Francisco Torres, was pronounced dead at the scene. Interstate 10 was closed at Jefferson Street to westbound traffic. The freeway was closed for 1 hour and 45 minutes for the investigation.
During this time, traffic was diverted off at Jefferson Street and was redirected onto the freeway at Washington Street. This collision is still under investigation and anyone with any information regarding the traffic collision or information regarding the deceased pedestrian, is encouraged to call the investigating officer, Officer Thomas, at (760) 772-5300.
