GRAND TERRACE – A 19-year-old man was arrested for grand theft auto just after midnight on Thursday, officials said. At around 12:07 a.m. a deputy from the Grand Terrace station ran a record check on a red 1991 Dodge Ram in the area of Mt. Vernon Avenue and Barton Road. The deputy, through the check learned that the vehicle was reported stolen to the Rialto Police Department on July 26th.
The suspect, later identified as Marcos Martinez Alfonso of Colton, pulled into a driveway. The deputy activated his lights and sirens and Alfonso attempted to make a U-turn in the driveway, but the size of the truck prevented that. By that time an assisting deputy arrived and they made contact with Alfonso who was still attempting to make the u-turn.
Alfonso was arrested and booked into the Central Detention Center for Grand Theft Auto, Possession of Stolen Vehicle and his active felony warrant for Possession of Stolen Vehicle.
