COMMERCE – A former Commerce Aquatic Center swimming coach was sentenced to six years in prison for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl. Steven Matthew Garcia, 28, pleaded no contest to one felony count of Lewd Act Upon a Child and one misdemeanor count of indecent exposure. As part of his sentencing, he will be required to remain registered as a sex offender for his entire lifetime.
Garcia was arrested after the small child disclosed that she was fondled by him in the employee lounge at the aquatic center. Garcia also threatened the girl telling her that she was not to tell anyone about the assault that occurred sometime between October 2016 and January 2017.
