YUCAIPA – A convicted sex offender was arrested on Monday for groping women while they shopped in a Yucaipa Stater Bros.Market on Sunday. Authorities said that the male suspect groped the breast of several women who were shopping in the store located on 5th Street near Yucaipa Boulevard. The store staff escorted the man out of the store to await police, but he fled prior to their arrival.
The victims finished shopping and left the store. One victim posted a photo of the suspect on social media. On Monday, August 8, 2017, a parole agent saw the post and recognized the suspect as Geavanni Chavez, 30, a registered sex offender. As part of Chavez’ parole terms, he was required to wear a GPS monitoring ankle bracelet. The GPS monitor data was used to determine his location and to alert police.
During the investigation some of the victims were identified and/or contacted, but investigators believe that there may be more. Chavez was booked into the West Valley Detention Center for Parole Violation and Felony Sexual Battery. He is being held without bail.
Anyone who is a victim of a similar crime, or has information about this crime, should contact the Yucaipa Police Station at (909)918-2305.
