DESERT HOT SPRINGS, Calif. – Desert Hot Springs Police arrested a carjacking suspect on Saturday, officials said.
On Friday, July 26, 2019, at around 6:30 a.m. Peter Meraz, 48, was involved in a carjacking in the 66800 block of Pierson Boulevard, police said. He was arrested on the morning of Saturday, July 27, 2019. Meraz fled on foot when officers attempted to make contact with him.
He was arrested in the area of Palm Drive and Hacienda Avenue and booked at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility for carjacking, vandalism, obstructing a peace officer, and a parole violation. He is being held with no bail as a result of the parole violation, authorities said.
No injuries were reported as a result of the carjacking. Meraz will appear at the Larson Justice Center on Wednesday for arraignment according to court records.
