FONTANA – An ongoing dispute between two Fontana men left both dead on Friday authorities said.
At around 1:26 p.m. officers responded to a home located at 7462 Cypress Avenue for the report of a man being shot. When they arrived they learned that Claudio Rendon, 67, was pulling into his driveway at which when his neighbor, Orion Godbout, 45, ran out of his house and up to the vehicle. Godbout shot into the vehicle multiple times and went back to his home as Rendon collapsed in his driveway. When officers responded they attempted to aid Rendon who was bleeding heavily as a result of multiple gunshot wounds. While attempting to provide aid to Rendon, Godbout exited his home shooting toward the officers. As the officers attempted to move to safety, taking Rendon with them an officer-involved shooting occurred.
Godbout was located deceased on the front porch of his home, just one house south of Rendon’s home. A firearm was located next to Godbout’s body. Authorities are not sure if the fatal gunshot would came from a police officer or it Godbout shot himself. Rendon was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but despite lifesaving efforts, he also died as a result of his injuries.
The homicide investigation is being conducted by Fontana Police Department detectives and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is handling the officer-involved shooting portion of the case, as per department protocol. The officers involved in the shooting were placed on paid administrative leave per department policy.
