TWENTYNINE PALMS – One suspect was arrested and one got away after burglarizing Palms-N- Paws Animal Shelter in Twentynine Palms on Sunday, July 22, 2018.
Authorities said that Levi Irwin, 20, of Twentynine Palms and an identified male forced entry into the door of the Palms-N-Paws Animal Shelter. The suspect stole two Pitbull dogs and unlocked the cages, allowing the other dogs to run free. As a result, two dogs ran from the building and have not been located. Two other dogs were badly hurt after fighting.
Detectives from the Morongo Basin Station investigated the case and a search warrant was issued for Irwin’s home. Evidence was recovered as evidence and he was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail for Burglary and Animal Cruelty.
