Driver Killed in Head-On Collision while Passing Vehicles, Other Driver Seriously Injured

HESPERIA, Ca. – One person is deceased and a second person is suffering major injuries following a head-on traffic collision on Monday morning.

At around 10:39 a.m. deputies from the Hesperia station and emergency medical personnel responded to the area of Sycamore Street and Mariposa Road for a two-vehicle traffic collision. When they arrived at the scene they located a badly mangled pickup truck and sedan. The driver at the scene sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver of the sedan was driving northbound on Mariposa Road passing vehicles at a high rate of speed. An 88-year-old male driver was driving southbound in his pickup truck when the sedan went into his lane and collided head-on. The elderly driver of the truck sustained major injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
