RIVERSIDE – The driver of a vehicle was struck by several vehicles on the 91 freeway after getting out of the vehicle following a traffic collision.
On Friday, March 17, 2017, at around 2:17 a.m. the City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a crash on the eastbound 91 freeway east of 14th street. When they arrive they found a major damage 2-vehicle traffic collision, with one vehicle fully engulfed in fire.
The occupant was able to get out of the vehicle and crawl to safety. City Fire officials believe that the other vehicle first hit the K rail and the occupant got out. Once out, the occupant was stuck by several vehicles causing fatal injuries. The driver of that vehicle was dead on arrival.
The fire was extinguished and a patient was treated for moderate injuries. The patient was transported to a local trauma center. The freeway was closed for several hours for the collision investigation and to clear the roadway.
