RIVERSIDE, Calif. – A Riverside man was arrested for suspected driving while under the influence of drugs after causing a 5-vehicle collision.
At around 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2019, officers responded to the area of Van Buren Boulevard and Citrus Heights Road. Authorities said that when they arrived the driver who caused the collision, he ran back to his vehicle to hide a glass drug pipe.The investigation revealed that the suspect, later identified as Michael Rivera, 42, was traveling south on Van Buren Boulevard when he failed to stop at the redi light at Citrus Heights Road
He struck one SUV, then two other SUV’s before colliding with a fourth vehicle. Witnesses stated this same driver was seen traveling south on Van Buren Blvd. from the 91 Freeway at a high rate of speed before crashing at this intersection. In total, 6 children and 5 adults were injured in this collision.
A drug and alcohol evaluation was performed on the suspect driver. Michael Rivera, 42-years-old of Riverside, was ultimately arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs causing injuries.
