RIVERSIDE – A possible DUI traffic collision into a tree Monday morning killed one and caused significant injuries to a second person. At around 2:14 p.m. multiple reports were made regarding a single-vehicle traffic collision into a tree on University Avenue west of Eucalyptus Avenue. When they arrived they located the 2011 Chevy Impala with major damage.
Two occupants suffering from major injuries were also located; the driver, a 31-year-old resident of Desert Hot Springs and a 31-year-old Moreno Valley resident who was a passenger. Investigation revealed that the Chevy was being driven eastbound on University Avenue when it left the roadway and collided into two trees and a light pole. Both the driver and the passenger were transported to Riverside Community Hospital with major injuries. The passenger later succumbed to his injuries. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this collision.
The Riverside Police Departments Major Accident Investigation Team responded and is currently investigating. The passenger’s identity is pending the coroner’s investigation. Anyone with information regarding this collision is urged to call Riverside Police Traffic Detective G. Matthews at (951) 826-8724.
