EASTVALE – A 40-year-old Eastvale man was arrested after shooting at police Monday afternoon. At around 3:50 p.m. Eastvale police arrived at the home in the 5700 block of Westchester Way in Eastvale reference the report of a possible overdose. When they arrived they were alerted that a gunshot was heard inside the home and someone may have been shot.
Officers entered the home to provide medical aid to the possibly injured victim. They located a male subject, later identified as Thomas Williams inside a room. Williams refused to come out of the room and for unknown reasons began shooting through the door toward the officers. The officers moved away from the area and hunkered down in the residence. A Riverside Police Helicopter, as well as officers from the Chino Police Department, arrived to assist in the now volatile incident.
Eastvale officers were able to exit the home with no injuries sustained and continued to negotiate a peaceful resolution to the incident. He continued to refuse commands made by officers and an officer involved shooting occurred. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident but Williams was transported to the hospital for precautionary purposes, Sheriff’s officials said.
The two involved officers, one from the Corona Police Department and the second from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department were as part of department protocol put on administrative leave. He was released and subsequently booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for attempted murder.
Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation. This is an active and on-going investigation.
