SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The County of San Bernardino is warning the recipients of benefits placed on an EBT card of a new scam where your benefits can be stolen.
Customers have reported that they have had their benefits stolen while signing up for “free” government phones. The solicitors of these “free” phones, formerly referred to as “Obama phones” are asking for personal identifying information from customers and taking photos of their Electronics Benefits Transfer (EBT) card and other documents. The San Bernardino County or the State of California will NEVER take pictures or request your EBT card number or your PIN.
EBT customers should never provide a PIN number to anyone. If someone knows your card number, do not confirm it.
