VICTORVILLE – Over three years following his child molestation arrest, a 75-year-old Victorville man was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
On the morning of Friday, May 12, 2017, Richard Gomez Ruiz appeared at the Victorville Superior Court to stand before Judge John M Tomberlin for sentencing on the rape of a 9-year-old girl. Ruiz was arrested on September 28, 2014, when the mother of the girl reported that her child was possibly molested by Ruiz.
Ruiz was taken to the Victorville Station for questioning and was subsequently booked into jail. He was held at the West Valley Detention Center throughout his trial in lieu of $500,000 bail. Throughout Ruiz’ trial, his representation requested numerous medical and comfort hearings, including one to request additional blankets and cold-weather clothing.
The court allowed for the child witness was accompanied by a canine for support during her testimony. The jury trial ended on Thursday, April 6, 2017, with a guilty verdict.
