BAKER – An 86-year-old woman sustained major injuries in a Thursday morning collision CHP officials said. At around 5:20 a.m. the woman was driving on the 15 south of the city of Baker in her 2011 Toyota Yaris. As she reached Rasor Road she lost control of her vehicle while attempting to change lanes from the #2 lane to the #1 lane.
The loss of control consequently sent her vehicle across the southbound lanes onto the Rasor Road offramp and into the open desert just east of the freeway. She was able to regain some control entering back onto the southbound Rasor Road on-ramp. The vehicle then went back onto the right shoulder striking a roadway sign causing the vehicle to overturn landing on its roof.
The woman was transported to Barstow Community Hospital, where she was then airlifted to Loma Linda University for the treatment of major injuries. CHP officials said that drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the collision and the collision remains under investigation by the Barstow area CHP.
