CORONA – K9’s have been proven to be an asset to police everywhere, but it is not often they are ranked for their training and talents. Last weekend the Corona Police Department’s K9 team had the opportunity to show off competing in the Bakersfield Police K9 Trials.
These trials included 40 other K9 teams from other parts of California, officials said. The Corona Police Department K9 team shined being honored for their outstanding performance in many areas.
Detective Chris Espinoza and K9 Kuko his 3 ½ year old Belgian Malinois scored fifth overall for Narcotics Search. Kuko has been proudly serving with Corona Police since March of 2015.
Officer Carlos Gutierrez and K9 Claud, a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois who has been a member of the Corona Police Department since September 2015 took home three honors. Those honors included second overall in patrol area search, fourth overall in obedience, and fifth overall in building search.
Corporal Jeff Bennett and K9 Dex, who has been serving as part of the Corona Police Department since March 2014 placed in four areas including; first overall for article search, second overall for agility, third overall for narcotics search and fifth overall for obedience.
