VICTORVILLE – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an excessive heat warning with an extended period of very high temperatures in Inland areas from Friday, June 16, 2017, to Wednesday, June 21, 2017.
The extended period of extremely hot weather will be most intense in desert areas including Victorville, Hesperia, Apple Valley, Lucerne Valley, and surrounding cities. The highest temperatures, which led to the excessive heat warning will be from 11:00 a.m. on Saturday to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Temperatures over the weekend are expected to be 103-108 degrees and are due to increase through the beginning of next week with temperatures possibly reaching up to 107-112 degrees from Monday through Wednesday. Heat-related illnesses can affect those working or spending time outdoors, the elderly, children, those chronically ill, and those not accustomed to the high temperatures.
The NWS said that the heat wave may continue beyond Wednesday and may last through the end of next week. Young children and/or pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstance as car temperatures can quickly rise to dangerous, or even deadly temperatures.
Those with cooling in their home should remain indoors whenever possible and should stay hydrated. Those who do not should visit a cooling center between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Pets should be kept indoors and be provided with fresh water at all times. Those unable to bring pets inside should have a cool shaded area with adequate fresh water available. A small “kiddie” pool filled with water is oftentimes a relief to an overheated pet.
