OAK HILLS, Calif. – Most of the contents inside an Oak Hills home, occupied by two adult residents, were saved
The fire was reported at around 10:50 p.m. when the resident woke up to smoke in the house. When he walked into the kitchen he noticed that there was fire. When firefighters arrived at the home in the 7200 block of Aster Road near Emmerson Road they did not initially see smoke or fire. Upon closer inspection, they did notice smoke and fire coming from the roof in the rear center portion of the home. The resident was outside of the home and told firefighters that he was the only one in the home at the time of the fire. He also informed firefighters that the fire started inside the kitchen of the home. Firefighters entered the home through the garage and initiated an offensive fire attack.
Although the resident stated that no one else was at the home, a search was done inside the home looking for any other potential occupants. The kitchen fire was targetted first by the attacks in order to prevent the fire from spreading. Once the portion of the fire inside the kitchen was knocked down, the firefighters entered the attic area checking for extensions. They found fire inside the attic, which was quickly put out. The home sustained smoke damage throughout the home, but the fire damage was limited to the kitchen, attic, and roof. The majority of the contents inside the home was saved and the fire was knocked down by 11:20 p.m.
Fourteen San Bernardino County Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and assisted. CalFire also sent one The damage estimates and cause of the fire are not yet known. “San Bernardino County Fire reminds residents to provide two means of escape from every room and make sure everyone knows where to meet after leaving the home,” San Bernardino County Fire officials said. “Develop and practice a fire escape plan for your household.
