ORO GRANDE – The San Bernardino County Fire Department Firefighters responded to a home in the 19000 block of Whitehouse Road in Oro Grande. The fire was reported at around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 17th.
Upon arrival, they found a small contents fire in the attached garage of a single story home. “Firefighters were met with hoarder conditions,” said County Fire Spokesman, Ryan Vaccaro.
Firefighters were successful in preventing the spread of the fire gaining control within 10 minutes.
There was one occupant at home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The damage was minimal but there is no damage estimate at this time.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) said that fire departments nationwide are experiencing fires, injuries, and deaths as a result of hoarding. Three to five percent of the population can be classified as compulsive hoarders.
