FONTANA – A 10-year-old boy was attacked by a pit bull causing major facial and head injuries as he was walking home from school on Friday afternoon.
At around 2:37 p.m. dispatchers received a call reporting that a child was attacked by a dog in the 14800 block of Woodland Drive. When authorities arrived they located the child who had sustained severe injuries as a result of the attack. The child was treated at the scene and subsequently transported to a local hospital for the treatment of major non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities said that owner’s children may have left the gate to the home unlatched after taking the trash cans out. The owner of the dog, 36-year-old Richard Contreras was cited for dog at large, which is a misdemeanor.
It is believed the owner’s children may have left the gate of their residence unlatched after taking out garbage cans.The dog will be held on a mandatory quarantine by the Riverside County Animal Shelter. There are no other incidents involving this dog the police are aware of.
